WORDS Tiffany Bell PHOTO Matter
Spoonful of sugar, star-crossed lovers, the eyes of T.J. Eckleburg and one sleepy moon. Not ingredients for the next big cocktail, but perhaps a pretty perfect recipe for Alabama Shakespeare Festival’s 2013-2014 season.
We’ve been sworn to secrecy for months, but the word is out and we’re making it official. The eight-play line-up includes a little musical called Mary Poppins, three Shakespeares including Romeo & Juliet, two plays based on works from F. Scott Fitzgerald and William Faulkner, Goodnight Moon and a Christmas classic. We tend to think even “Will” himself would be impressed by the schedule for his 450th birthday.
Here’s the season schedule you’ve been waiting for – now you’ll just have to wait a little while longer until it opens November 29.
A Christmas Carol Nov. 29 – Dec. 24
Goodnight Moon Jan. 11 – Feb. 1
The Great Gatsby Jan. 31 – May 25
Twenty Seven Feb. 14 – March 2
The Taming of the Shrew March 14 – May 24
Timon of Athens April 25 – May 23
Romeo & Juliet May 18, 22 & 25
Mary Poppins July 16 – July 27
